For more than 10 years, Nutrition Facts panels have appeared on almost every food in the grocery store. But when we eat out, it's a crap shoot. And that hurts us. Americans eat about a third of their calories away from home, and those calories are in some measure responsible for the obesity and diabetes epidemics.
But some cities are taking on the restaurants:
* New York. In December 2006, New York City became the first jurisdiction to order some restaurants to post calories on menus and menu boards.
Unfortunately, New Yorkers were denied that information because the restaurant industry sued the city over a technicality. (Kudos to Subway, ...
