Big topics, few decisions as bishops meet.(NATION)

Semiannual meetings of U.S. Catholic bishops have recently been remarkable--less for what the bishops do than for what they leave undone. A mid-June assembly in Orlando was a case in point, as bishops grappled with, but left unresolved, three big-ticket challenges:
* A demographic revolution described by one expert as the "browning of American Catholicism," referring to the rapidly growing Hispanic presence;
* Unfinished business from the sexual abuse crisis, including how to rebuild trust between bishops and priests, and how to understand the role of therapists and lawyers in shaping the church's response;
