Diminished Capacity, a non-blockbuster, has all the outer marks of a small independent film. For many viewers, it should be a welcome relief from summer action spectaculars like "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." It raises the question of what makes a less publicized movie marketable.
Is it the actors, the themes or its more modest budget that accounts for its success? Fortunately, "Diminished Capacity" scores on all three counts. In addition to having stars such as Alan Alda and Matthew Broderick, the movie draws on themes like the devastation of Alzheimer's disease and the need to hold on to one's memories.
