AUGHRIM TRIP FOR LOUGHBRICKLAND HISTORICAL GROUP.

LOUGHBRICKLAND Historical Group's annual history field trip on June 21-22 centred on the events leading to Ireland's 'Culloden', the decisive Battle of Aughrim, which sealed the fate of the Jacobites in Ireland.

The group followed the trail of the retreating Jacobites (after the Boyne, both William and James left Ireland) first to Athlone, where the pursuing Williamites took the bridge over the River Shannon after a heroic struggle and then to the bloody field at Aughrim where 9,000 died.
