Where will the next rescuers come from?

HIGH house prices could threaten the future of mountain rescue groups, a tourism chief has warned.

Often it is young people who volunteer for Cumbria's 12 rescue teams, but there are fears the high cost of housing is driving out young families.

Haydn Spedding, from Cumbria Tourism, said the service, which relies on unpaid volunteers, might not survive. He called for a programme of education and awareness to ensure people continue to support mountain rescue teams.
