WITH the advantage of having eight arms, the octopus has long beenconsidered one of the most intelligent of sea creatures.

In rigorous experiments, the cephalopod has shown itself to be a bit of a whizzwhen it comes to problem-solving, displaying evidence of both short- andlong-term memory.
