After a nationwide recruitment effort, the city of Springfield came back home to name one of its own as its new public works director.
Susie Smith, who has worked for the city for 21 years, will take her new position on July 1. She replaces Dan Brown, who has worked for the city for 31 years.
Her beginning salary as public works director will be $93,863; the salary range for the position is $89,371 to $108,638, city spokesman Niel Laudati said.
Smith said she sought the director's position "for several reasons."
