CEBU CITY, July 6 (PNA) Philippine passenger ships of any tonnage cannot leave the port from now on without two safety requirements being pushed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
They must have two-way radios with a universal marine band, and there must be no typhoons present along their route, even if the storm warning signal is just at level one.
The President signed last Wednesday a resolution by the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council in Central Visayas (RDCC-7) calling on the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to make sure that all passenger ships have radios.
