GARDNER - Once home to 77 furniture factories, The Chair City will lose a chunk of its heritage when Nichols & Stone formally closes its doors this summer.
The announcement yesterday that a New York-based high end furniture manufacturer has bought the intellectual property and design rights of Nichols & Stone, the nation's oldest continuously operating furniture manufacturer, sealed the Gardner facility's fate but ensured that the company's products will continue being sold throughout the world.
