THE FAS community employment (CE) scheme may be extended to include people aged between 50 and 65.
The scheme helps long-term unemployed people get back into paid employment through work in local communities.
Local TD Bobby Aylward (FF) wants the terms of the scheme widened to help older people who have little other chance of finding work.
"I believe the scheme should be extended to include people between the ages of 50 and 65 who have already completed a CE Scheme and who, because of their age or their lack of experience, have little likelihood of returning to the active workforce," Deputy Aylward said.
