LOS ANGELES -- The city of Angels and its environs are more than the entertainment capital of the world. Los Angeles County covers 4,752 square miles and (as of July 2006) has a population of about 10.3 million. The county would rank as the eighth-largest state in the nation in terms of population, just behind Ohio and ahead of Michigan.
