MARK Cavendish made history today by becoming the first Manx rider ever to win a stage of the Tour de France.
The man known as the Manx Express arrived right on time too delivering his first Tour victory on the 232km stage five from Cholet to Chateauroux.
A long breakaway was caught in the final 10kms and Cavendish stormed home to confirm his status as the fastest road sprinter in the world.
When Cavendish won 11 races in his debut pro season last year he was widely tipped as a star of the future.
Newspaper and magazine reports described him as having 'potential' and that he would be a star in years to come.
