At first I thought I'd found the perfect solution to my raccoon-in-the-utility-room problem: Talk radio.

At bedtime, I turned the light on, plugged in the radio and tuned in the liveliest-sounding show on the dial.

It worked like a charm. The next morning, instead of being scoured clean, the cats' food dishes still had a healthy amount of kibble and Trader Joe's cat food tuna in them.
