A SHOCKING 615 Scots soldiers, the equivalent of an entire battalion, are AWOL or off sick.
That means more than one in four troops in the Royal Regiment of Scotland are absent without leave or unfit to fight. The figure has soared almost 25per cent in just a year.
The grim figures reveal the depth of the Army manpower crisis. And they add to growing fears that the pressure of fighting on two deadly fronts in Iraq and Afghanistan is pushing the Army to breaking point.
