HE was one of golf's first household names who cut a dashing figure in the depression era.

Henry Cotton was just a rising star when he came to Leeds to play in the first Ryder Cup in Britain.

But, with his handsome looks and love of champagne, caviar and bespoke tailoring, the 22-year-old would have already been hot sporting property when he attended a dinner at the Queens Hotel to mark the historic clash with the Americans.

Auctioneers are expecting a strong competition for a menu from the occasion on Saturday April 27 1929, signed on the night by Cotton.
