HARRIET Harman stunned Parliament yesterday by pulling a flagship embryoresearch Bill at the 11th hour.
The move led to accusations that Labour feared a backlash from Roman Catholicvoters in the crucial Glasgow East by-election later this month.
Pro-choice MPs had tabled a series of amendments to the legislation that wouldhave made it easier for women to get an abortion.
The proposals included allowing nurses to carry out early-stage terminationsand letting women have medical abortions at home.
Pro-life MPs said the amendments might have failed through lack of time - aproblem solved by the delay.
