Farewell to the 'St Nich' hotel.

BUSINESSES and former guests have said their final farewells to one of Scarborough's most popular hotels.

The Hotel St Nicholas will shut tomorrow in preparation for a [pounds sterling]5 million refurbishment by new owners, Travelodge.

The budget hotel chain announced the takeover last month and bosses say they plan to invest a total of [pounds sterling]16.7 million.

Former manager of the Hotel St Nicholas, Enda Rylands, said the hotel would be "sorely missed".

Mr Rylands has had a 15-year association with the hotel, having started out while still a university student in 1992. He took a year's placement at the hotel - and never went back to finish his degree.
