MINISTERS are looking at cutting stamp duty in the hope of kick-startingthe housing market.

Under the plan, stamp duty 'holidays' could be offered to first-time buyerswhile other homebuyers could have tax rates reduced.

Raising the 'price bands' at which stamp duty is charged is anotherpossibility.

The Treasury is weighing up the plan as Britain's housing market goes intomeltdown.
