IT IS tempting to see climate change as a battle between good and evil. The good include the scientists, environmentalists and other experts who warn of disaster if people continue to pour greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The evil are the businessmen who oppose change because it will hurt their profits. In between sit the politicians, dithering while catastrophe unfolds.
The trouble with this picture is that the forces of good are bickering. Those scientists who believe in global warming are growing more convinced that the world is heating up, and that man is to blame for it. Those who do not believe in it claim ever-stronger evidence for ...
