CROOKSTON, Minn.--Mar. 25--Carrots appear to be a growing trend in the Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota, but it's a crop that, perhaps paradoxically, doesn't have long roots here.
More than 140 people crowded a meeting on growing carrots March 22 at the University of Minnesota-Crookston, sponsored by the Agricultural Research Center.
The big turnout surprised Gary McVey, manager of a the vegetable-growing project at the Agrucultural Utilization Research Institute in Crookston. He's been researching and promoting vegetable growing in the Valley for years.
