This sheetfed trend, which runs counter to the rush to add color units, makes a lot of sense.
While bigger and longer sheetfed presses would not be practical without a lot of automation, lots of smaller and shorter presses are being built with all the bells and whistles.
This development has laid the foundation for a trend in sheetfed printing that utilizes two-color presses to print four-color work using separate passes. At stake: lower costs, added versatility, more efficiency for shorter runs, and a sharper competitive edge.
