Printers are increasingly relying on two-color sheetfed presses to accomplish printing jobs traditionally reserved to four-color presses. Lower investment and operating costs, shortened turnaround time between printing runs, and lessening print-quality expectations are creating a trend toward using two-color presses on two separate runs to produce four-color documents.
This sheetfed trend, which runs counter to the rush to add color units, makes a lot of sense.
While bigger and longer sheetfed presses would not be practical without a lot of automation, lots of smaller and shorter presses are being built with all the bells and whistles.
