The "Emerald City" references around Syracuse have nothing to do with a wizard or Munchkins, but they're no mistake either, city officials say.
Early last year, the city launched a marketing effort to spread the news of Syracuse's environmental efforts by titling the town the "Emerald City."
During the July 2 visit of Gov. David Paterson and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a banner in Hanover Square proclaimed, "Syracuse: The Emerald City."
The same name topped the booklet that summarized Mayor Matt Driscoll's 2008 State of the City speech. It was also the title of a 16-page insert in the June 23 ...
