VILLAGERS ACT OVER SPEEDERS.

DRIVERS speeding through a Fenland village could find themselves on the receiving end of warning letters thanks to a new scheme launched by residents.

Volunteers have been manning speed radar guns on roads around Upwell in the past few weeks and have been making a note of vehicles exceeding the limit.

Frank Humm, parish councillor and co-ordinator for the scheme, said the first session had seen 15 vehicles travelling at over 40mph in a 30mph in School Road - with a top speed recorded of 51mph.

However, if volunteers stuck to the letter of the law and recorded those driving at 37mph or more then a further 12 people would have been reported to police.
