U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith made a stop at Oakway Golf Course on Wednesday night to rally supporters around his message of working across party lines.
Smith casually conversed with attendees, including Eugene City Councilor Mike Clark, former state Sen. Bob Kintigh and Springfield Mayor Sid Leiken.
Former gubernatorial candidate Jack Roberts, who introduced Smith, said the Republican incumbent has a 12-year record "of seizing the middle ground."
"If Gordon was as far to the right as Jeff Merkley is to the left, he wouldn't represent Oregon," Roberts said, referring to the former Oregon House Speaker ...
