The rising cost of energy has forced some unlikely companies this year into the electricity-generating business: Think Pepsi-Cola and the Kendall Auto Group.

Now comes Eugene's Seneca Sawmill with the idea of turning the low-grade chips, bark and dust left over from its milling operations into power that would flow into local utility lines.

The project, which would cost as much as $30 million if the company decides to go ahead, would involve installing a large wood-fired boiler, a turbine and a cooling tower.
