Sharpening its image contest with Israel in the stand-off on Tehran's nuclear and regional ambitions, the theocracy has resurrected questions about the fate of four Iranians who went missing near Beirut in 1982 while Israeli forces occupied the Lebanese capital. Officials in the office of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon on July 8 said a letter the Iranian Mission at the UN publicised on July 7, asking him to intervene to determine the fate of the men, had yet to arrive. In it Iran accuses Israel of holding the Iranians - two diplomats, their driver and a journalist - as prisoners, a charge the Israelis dismiss.
