Hidden cameras are now being used to keep tabs on litterbugs, fly tippers and people who leave behind dog mess.

The new scheme, which resembles something out of the George Orwell novel 1984, was launched by Hastings Borough Council on Monday.

A new council department, The Environmental Service Team, was in Warrior Gardens to show members of the public how hidden cameras will help catch offenders.

Eight Community Officers (COs) will soon be patrolling the streets of Hastings and St Leonards intent on stamping out anti-social problems like dog mess and fly-tipping.
