Like a good host, Michael Smuin wants to entertain his guests. What he doesn't realize is that cheap champagne loses its fizz the minute you open the bottle. And that's unfortunate since Smuin's considerable theatrical flair and the fluidity with which he handles dance vocabulary of almost any kind should have produced a frothy entertainment less flat than what he served in his new Christmas Ballet.
