The Los Angeles County Transportation Authority has approved the selection of Joseph E. Drew as chief executive officer, ending months of political turmoil over who will lead the nation's second-largest transit agency.
Drew, who was hired last May as a deputy at the agency, will today begin his first full week as the official choice to head the MTA. The authority - which is building a multibillion dollar, bond-financed subway system in the Los Angeles area - has been without a chief executive officer since the ouster of Franklin White earlier this year.
