Mindy Kim's failure to advance past the first round of the LPGA's qualifying school last fall prompted a personal pledge.
She would use the offseason to address the mechanical glitches in her swing. She would concentrate on her short game, where strokes could be gained by more precise play. She would improve her putting stroke to make it more consistent. And she would hire a new coach to replace her former instructor, who moved to Korea to become a college professor.
"I needed to fix a lot of things in my game," she said. "I had to work really hard on my mechanical things. I was just way off."
