A place for CZ masters in diamond color grading?

This investigation explores historical guidance in the use of diamond masters, and offers a rationale for augmenting smaller master sets with a full set of carat size CZ masters. The study results speak to the question: can the subjectivity of diamond color grading be reduced by supplementing an incomplete set of smaller diamond masters with a complete set of larger CZ masters? The author, along with two gemologist-appraiser colleagues, presents a "consumer reports" style study of the accuracy of eight 10-stone sets of CZ masters, four from each of the two main manufacturers of these sets.
