Tin and silver prices recently reached a 19-year high, and it is important to understand how this will impact the solder-alloy supply.

COST IMPACT OF CURRENT TIN SUPPLY

The International Tin Research Institute (2) (ITRI) has published a report forecasting a potential shortfall in tin availability in 2007. The ITRI is projecting that global demand for tin will exceed production by 30,700 metric tons, due to a 30% reduction in tin exports from Indonesia.
