Lowering the ticket for first-time fireworks offenders proved an explosive topic at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
The council eventually voted 12-6 in favor of the ordinance, but not before its sponsor, Ald. Lauren Cnare, amended the lowered fine from $150 to $225, plus court costs. The city's previous fine did not distinguish between first-time and repeat offenders, charging $300 for each offense that added up to $424 once court fees were included.
