A FAMILY from Wimblington had a lucky escape last night (Wednesday) after a candle placed in a child's bedroom window caught fire to a nearby curtain.
The child was in the room at the time but closed the door and alerted the rest of the family, who all escaped from the house and called 999.
All three family members managed to escape unharmed, as did two pet cats in the property at the time.
Fire fighters from March and Chatteris were called to the Doddington Road property at 7.08pm. Both arrived eight minutes later to find the fire had been contained to the first floor bedroom.
