THE owner of a boat which capsized off Whitby, drowning three people, did not have its American radio switched on because he thought it would not work in England, an inquest heard.
Andrew Carrick, 45, his brother John, 36, and Andrew's partner Jill Russell, 48, died after their boat, Last Call, overturned in rough seas last November.
Whitby Lifeboat and an RAF Sea King helicopter crew were unable to save the trio, despite heroic attempts in treacherous conditions.
The brothers' family spoke of their "heartbreak" over the loss of the pair and hoped lessons could be learnt.
