NEW YORK - A ballpark that has stood for more than eight decades, a place that has hosted three popes, an NFL title game that forever changed the history of the sport and more World Series than anyone without a handy reference guide can remember, a hallowed, haunted and sacred cathedral where Lou larruped, Joe jolted and the Sultan swatted, was certainly deserving of an encore in what might have been its last moment in the national spotlight.
So after nine marvelous innings, this grand old lady known as Yankee Stadium came back and took another bow. And then, she refused to leave the stage.
