THE fruity style of Liebfraumilch seems to have fallen out of fashion with folk who prefer a dryer, more sophisticated tipple.
It is not just here in Britain where Liebfraumilch's popularity has taken a tumble. Take a trip to its homeland and the reaction from those in the know is surprisingly vehement.
"Terrible. It's embarrassing," complained Herbert, vineyard owner and mine host at the Lowen restaurant in Uhlbach, a hillside suburb of Stuttgart, who could hardly believe shops and pubs in Britain still sold the stuff.
