The coverings on your eyes are thin so you can see properly.

The see-through, or transparent, covering over the center of your eye is called the cornea (CORE-nee-a). It helps focus light rays onto the back of your eye. If this layer were thick, it would distort your vision and make it difficult for you to see.

The eye covering that surrounds the cornea is called the sclera (SKLIR-uh). ...
