IN ROMAN times the cheering crowds gathered in their thousands at the Circus Maximus to watch the thrills and spills of chariot racing.
The exciting atmosphere and dangers of the spectacle at the ancient racetrack in Rome was famously captured in the 1959 blockbuster movie Ben-Hur, starring Charlton Heston.
And now the Italian capital could host the sport again.
