As though Japanese car buyers aren't tough enough to deal with, Mother Nature put another challenge in the way of the Toyota Cavalier when it went on sale in showrooms here Jan. 20 - the first snow of the season.
The snowfall was less than 2 inches, but it was enough to keep Saturday tire-kickers at home and showroom traffic far below normal.
Toyota, which hopes to sell 20,000 Cavaliers a year, is using the sporty General Motors-built compact as bait to lure traditional customers of other brands into its showrooms. The sedan is priced from $17,240 to $18,245 at current exchange rates, and the coupe is $19,525.
