NORTHUMBERLAND National Park Authority (NNPA) has given a cautious welcome to the news that English National Parks are to receive a year on year increase of just over 2% over the next two years, which will help to meet the cost of inflation.
The announcement by Defra means an additional [pounds sterling]69,000 for the NNPA in this current financial year, with a further increase of [pounds sterling]76,000 in 2007/08. However, it looks like it has come too late to save up to 14 jobs which are being axed because the authority has already slashed its budget by [pounds sterling]500,000 over the next two years.
