ENVIRONMENT : BOOST FOR MORE ENVIRONMENTAL INDUSTRIAL POLICY.

Little by little, European companies are adopting a more ecological approach. They are encouraged by the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), which helps them assess their environmental performance. Not bad, but, believes the European Commission, it is possible to improve this system's scope. This is what it intends to do with the proposal for a revision of the EMAS regulation, adopted on 16 July, in the framework of an action plan for sustainable consumption and production. The new regulation aims, among other objectives, to give a boost to small and medium-sized businesses on this matter and to open the system to organisations situated outside the EU(1).
