The day didn't end badly for Carlos Silva. In the late afternoon sun, he and the other Mariners were on the Safeco Field infield for the annual family day game.
It was a moment to get away from the grind that has been Silva's first season in Seattle. There were snapshots to take, videos to mug for and the chance to see the kids hit off the tee and against a lob.
By contrast, the first part of the day Sunday was something else. It began well enough with teammates wearing T-shirts that said "The Return of the Chief - 52," a reference to Silva's nickname in Minnesota and his uniform number.
