THE Wits End cafe at Sandsend has been voted by Countryfile magazine as one of the best beach cafes in the UK in the July issue.
The magazine features the pick of the best beach cafes. The cafe's location affords it splendid views of Whitby Abbey across Sandsend bay.
Keith and Deborah Foster took over the cafe in 1999.
There has been a cafe on the site since 1908 and before that it was a general store. Keith, who used to be head gardener for the Marquis of Normanby at Mulgrave until last year, has built a walled garden at the cafe for customers to enjoy. It is also used to grow salad and herbs for the cafe.
