Continue to pay
Re "Parole for Manson follower Atkins rejected" (July 16):
Thank you, Gov. Schwarzenegger, for denying Susan Atkins' request for compassionate leave. Atkins was convicted of multiple murders of innocent people 40 years ago. She didn't do it out of self-defense, but in cold blood. If California hadn't changed all death penalty convictions to life sentences, Atkins would not be here today. Do I want to continue to pay for Atkins' medical expenses? The answer is no, but the bottom line is that Atkins committed several very brutal crimes, and she needs to continue to pay.
