The Rev. Jesse Jackson's recent protest of this year's Academy Awards ceremony brought attention to what he calls "institutionalized racism" within the motion picture industry.
"There is this cultural bias and cultural lockout," Jackson said. "We're really trying to raise consciousness... At a certain point you have to organize and fight back."
The protest stemmed from the lack of minority nominations for awards this year. Out of 166, only one non-White was nominated.
The protest called for supporters to picket ABC affiliate stations which aired the ceremony. Also, supporters attending the program at the Music Center in Los Angeles wore multi-colored ...
