I enjoyed Ronald Bailey's interview with the entrepreneur and philanthropist Peter Thiel ("'Technology Is at the Center,'" May). Thiel seems exceedingly bright and articulate, with well-thought-out philosophies about our technological future. Yet he showed his ignorance when it came to religion. I dislike when people who've made no effort to understand religion and myth make claims such as, "Every myth on this planet tells us the purpose of life is death, and I don't think that's true. I think the purpose of life is life."
It is just not that simple. In many religions, death represents the reality of creative destruction. Death is not simply the end of life, but ...
