TEAMS of highly skilled pickpockets are targeting Banbury's charity shops and stealing cash from elderly and vulnerable people.

One pensioner raised the alarm after her purse containing [pounds sterling]170 holiday money was lifted while she was shopping at the PDSA outlet in Church Walk.

Joyce Whitehouse, 65, said the incident on Monday left her in shock and unable to sleep. She wants other shoppers to be aware of the danger.

"When I went to the police station to report the theft, they asked if it happened in a charity shop before I could even say so myself," she said.
