BARNSLEY Council has received a huge financial boost after selling off unwanted assets for [pounds sterling]7.4 million.
The local authority had hoped to raise [pounds sterling]4.5 million by selling off about 20 council buildings and sites..
But every lot was snapped up at far more than the guide price - welcome news for a council facing a projected [pounds sterling]10m shortfall in three years.
Council leaders said today they were "very happy indeed" with the amount raised .
They regard selling off unwanted assets to raise capital as a vital part of their plans to address the shortfall forecast.
