A GP who prescribed a suicidal patient a potentially lethal dose of sleeping pills could be struck off for bringing his profession into disrepute.
Dr Iain Kerr prescribed 30 sodium amytal pills to the retired businesswoman in 1998 after she told him she had considered killing herself.
The General Medical Council's Fitness to Practise Panel yesterday censured the 61-year-old GP, ruling his actions were 'inappropriate, irresponsible, liable to bring the profession into disrepute and not in your patient's best interest'.
